RGPFC U-13 team wins the JSW Youth Cup; U-15 team finishes third

Bellary: RoundGlass Punjab FC were crowned the U-13 champions at the JSW Youth Cup held in Bellary, Karnataka. The team defeated hosts Bengaluru FC 4-1 in the penalties after the game was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time. Rongdamlen Thanga Chiru scored for RoundGlass Punjab FC whereas it was substitute goalkeeper Yengkhom Thomas Singh’s heroics in the penalty shootout which led to the team’s victory.

The tournament, which started on April 14 saw participation from six academies – RoundGlass Punjab FC, Jamshedpur FC, Reliance Foundation Young Champs, Sreenidi Deccan FC, FC Madras and Bengaluru FC.

On the other hand, in the U-15 age category, RoundGlass Punjab FC were able to finish third after defeating Sreenidi Deccan FC 6-0 in the battle for third place. Gunleiba Wangkheirakpam scored a hat-trick whereas Nilkanta Mahato, Lalgousem Tuboi and Sayonba Moirangthem scored a goal each.

Nikolaos Topoliatis, Football Director, RoundGlass Punjab FC, said, “We are delighted with our teams’ performance at the JSW Youth Cup and happy at the progress the boys have made so far. We hope to keep building on this success and provide more such opportunities for our young players to compete and showcase their talent.”
